Doug Youmans
Having successfully (successfully?) turned a potential journalism diploma into a general college diploma, Doug turned his attentions in several possible career directions, including theatre-ushering, bartending, floor-cleaning, deck-handing, landscaping and truck-driving, but alas, could find no path forward to a life of fulfillment. Following a lengthy and life-altering trip to Europe and Africa, and still in the midst of scraping his knees and stubbing his toes and bumping into the furniture of life, he began volunteering with the Ministry of Natural Resources and picking up the odd writing/photography assignment from a paper where a friend was working. Long story short, he ended up owning that paper and eventually it went on to earn several provincial and national newspaper awards and eventually a big chain of newspapers moved in and swallowed this wonderful little paper to create a much bigger paper and Doug became one of its founding editors. A year and a half in, he announced he was leaving and went home to finally help raise his daughter who was confused by the sudden arrival of this stranger in her life, but nonetheless, begrudgingly, accepted his presence. Today, he bothers people by sharing a link to a photography website he placed on the internet after discovering it was included in his subscription to Photoshop. In addition to his enjoyment of photography, he also has a long-running interest in politics, but sadly, it has no interest in him which makes things awkward between them at parties and when they bump into each other at coffee shops. He likes to mouth the words to the song Miracles and other mostly 70s tunes when they play on Spotify while walking his dog which often causes people to cross the street. That's Seamus in the picture. Doug got into a lot of places he wouldn't normally have with Seamus at his side. He was his best friend. He misses him with all his heart.
